Meta and AMD Partner for Mobile Infrastructure Program

Xilinx Zynq UltraScale RFSoC, AMD's radio chip, would be used in the Evenstar radio units.

The partnership program called Evenstar, launched in early 2020 by Meta Platforms Inc promotes a platform called OpenRan. This platform enables cellular network operators, to mix and match hardware and software for building base stations.

Chip maker AMD, along with Meta Platforms Inc., said their partnership was for a mobile internet infrastructure program that would bring base station costs down to make broadband more accessible around the world.

“Operators would have more flexibility and make equipment pricing more competitive,” said Gilles Garcia, an executive with AMD’s data center and communications group.
