Aiming to expand its position in the South Asian market, water technology company A.O. Smith will take over Pureit by the end of this year.
On Tuesday, US-based water technology firm A. O. Smith Corporation announced it will purchase Pureit, a subsidiary of Hindustan Unilever. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
The company stated that acquiring Pureit, which mainly provides various residential water purification solutions in India, would bolster its market presence in South Asia.
It further mentioned that the merger would align with their corporate strategy by improving their product range and distribution capabilities. The company aims to cater to the specific consumer needs of the region, especially India.
Although no financial information about the merger was disclosed, A.O. Smith confirmed that the deal is not anticipated to affect earnings in the first year.
Parag Kulkarni, president of A. O. Smith India Water Products, noted that Pureit’s strong brand recognition aligns well with A. O. Smith’s global channels. He further highlighted that Pureit’s understanding of consumer needs will strengthen A. O. Smith’s position in India.
Rohit Jawa, chief executive officer and managing director of Hindustan Unilever Limited, said, “This move is in line with our strategic intent to focus sharply on our core categories. Pureit provides essential water purification solutions to millions of loyal consumers, and I am confident the brand will thrive further under the ownership of A. O. Smith.”
A. O. Smith Corporation, headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US, has been in business for 150 years, developing energy-efficient water heating equipment, boilers, and water treatment products.
