March 5,2015: ABB India, based out of Bengaluru, has become the first company in India to have sold a cumulative capacity of 1 GW solar photovoltaic (PV) inverters. The sale took place in response to a demand by Tata Power Solar recently for its project Kiran Energy Solar Power.
The company had started manufacturing these solar PV inverters in 2012 and has been able to expand its business with its key industry customers since then. According to the figures revealed by ABB India, the cumulative installed base for central PV inverters in India has already reached a milestone of 3GW in 2014.
In a recent report, Bazmi Husain, managing director, ABB India said, “Despite having the fifth largest generation capacity in the world, a third of our population has no access to electricity. We hope to be a key component in India’s solar powered future through our solutions spanning the entire solar value chain. The ambitious target set for solar power generation capacity in the country – 100GW by 2022 – makes it imperative to leverage all avenues available, be it 300 days of sunshine or opting for efficient and quality components deployed across solar projects.”
