BSE-listed Smartlink Network Systems may look at contract manufacturing of smartphones and tablet computers for multinational players in India, a top company official has said.
“We are expanding our manufacturing capabilities by adding more surface mount technology lines (in Goa). With this, we will have the capability to manufacture smartphones and tablets as well. We would be open for contract manufacturing of electronic and IT products,” said a senior official.
It may be recalled that Smartlink was formed in 2009 after Taiwanese networking company D-Link Corporation and its Indian promoter Mr Naik parted ways. Following the demerger of D-Link (India), two separate companies – D-Link (India) and Smartlink Network Systems — were formed, with the latter retaining its manufacturing facilities in Goa.
In many ways, this is a fresh start for Smartlink, which sold its structured cabling business (Digilink) to Schneider Electric India for a total consideration of Rs 503 crore, earlier this year. Currently, Smartlink manufactures computer motherboards and provides switching solutions under its Digilite and Digisol brands, respectively.
