Wednesday, July 10, 2013: The Indian government has invited its Vietnamese counterpart to set up electronic manufacturing in the country. Two MoUs (Memorandum of Understanding) were signed between the countries for partnership in information, communications and technology. The first memorandum was a partnership between the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and its counterpart, the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority. The second one saw a partnership between the Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing or WPC coming under India’s Department of Telecommunications and the Authority of Radio Frequency Management, Vietnam.
IT minister Kapil Sibal and Nguyen Bac Son, his counterpart from the Vietnamese government are planning for a six-member joint committee which would be responsible for the roadmap of collaboration regarding the ICT field. The initiation of this group will take a period of next couple of months. The Vietnamese government will be nominating three members for the bench within the next two months. Once the joint committee is formed, they will also chalk out a roadmap for investment in India.
According to Sibal, the Vietnamese Government has been invited to set up an electronic cluster city and can come up anywhere between the Delhi-Mumbai corridor. The deemed name for the city would be ‘Ho Chi Minh’. High level Vietnamese leaders will be visiting India later this year and this would be facilitating a significant amount of co-operation. Both the ministers have agreed upon electronics manufacturing, standards setting, software services, spectrum management, cyber security, ICT regulations, disaster management for coastal areas and other multilateral platforms to come up in the project. Considering the amount of skill and young manpower available in the country, the opportunities for both countries will be abundant.
