February 13, 2015: The Ministry for Communication and IT has given a go ahead to projects worth Rs 60 billion. These projects have been given a nod under the ‘Make in India’ program.
According to the official statement, though the ministry had received projects worth Rs 200 billion, Rs 60 billion worth projects were approved.
These projects will help in curbing telecom equipment import, which currently stands at $100 billion annually. It is the second largest item of trade deficit.

Moreover, the need to ‘make in India’ has grown stronger, especially for telecom, as India is the second largest smartphone consumer in the world after the US.
