January 20, 2015: According to a recent industry official, with government’s plans of installing LEDs in place of tungsten street lights, the LED industry of India is likely to reach a mark of Rs 216 billion by 2020, reports Business Standard.
LED lighting, in 2013, accounted Rs 19.25 billion of the total lighting industry turnover of Rs 130 billion. These numbers are going to change drastically by 2020, as the lighting industry would reach a whooping Rs 350 billion and LED will account more than half of the total lighting industry’s turnover at Rs 216 billion.
This number can be achieved looking at government’s plans to promote LED lighting in a big way by first transforming the public space lighting by installing LEDs and step two to give away LED bulbs at a subsidy price. This will help promote the use of LED lighting, thus calling in for greater demands and growth of the industry.
