TDK Corporation Joins RE100; Aims to Use 100% Renewable Electricity by 2050

Japanese global electronic solutions provider, TDK Corporation recently joined the RE100 international initiative, while renovating its initiative to power all its facilities with renewable energy by 2050. RE100 is a global corporate renewable energy initiative bringing together hundreds of like-minded and ambitious business members like 3M, Accenture, Adobe, LG, Microsoft, Nike, Samsung, Unilever, and more committed to 100% renewable electricity.

TDK plans to contribute to the implementation of a sustainable society and in its Environmental Vision 2035, TDK has stated its target of enhancing the social value of the company. TDK is taking action to achieve at least 50% renewable energy as a share of the total worldwide electricity consumption of TDK Group worldwide by fiscal 2025.

Notably, the company currently has a total of 26 facilities, mainly production sites, operating with 100% electricity derived from renewable energy. With the target to achieve 82 facilities worldwide, the entire TDK Group has a current renewable energy introduction rate of around 30% – and a new goal of increasing to 100% by 2050.

President and CEO of TDK, Noboru Saito remarked, “Our goal at TDK Group is to create more effective use of energy and expand our use of renewable energy toward the realization of net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. The opportunity to join RE100 allows TDK to advance the development of a sustainable society and champion well-being for all people by fully utilizing TDK’s proprietary core technologies and solutions.”

Tokyo-based TDK Corporation is a leading global electronic solutions provider with a network of design and manufacturing locations and sales offices in Asia, Europe, and in North and South America. Set up in 1935 to commercialize ferrite (a key material in electronic and magnetic products), TDK‘s portfolio features passive components such as ceramic, aluminium electrolytic and film capacitors, sensors and sensor systems, as well as magnetics, high-frequency, and piezo and protection devices, marketed under the product brands TDK, EPCOS, InvenSense, Micronas, Tronics and TDK-Lambda. The company identifies itself as being built on a foundation of material sciences mastery and likes to be at the forefront of technological evolution.

RE100 is an international initiative operated by Climate Group, an international environmental NGO, in partnership with CDP. It consists of companies committed to converting electricity use in business activities to 100% renewable energy. There are 391 member companies around the world, as of now.
