India Ranks 4th In The World As It Achieves Renewable Energy Capacity of Over 100 GW

This also includes the 1,370 MW solar projects that the Uttar Pradesh government has installed in the state in the past 4 years

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said that the total installed renewable energy capacity in India, excluding large hydro, has crossed the milestone of 100 GW.

With this, India ranks fourth in the world in terms of installed renewable capacity and fifth in solar in terms of installed capacity.

In an official statement, the ministry said that India has set ambitious targets for itself in the area of Renewable Energy, which the MNRE is committed to achieving.

While 100 GW has been installed, 50 GW is under installation and 27 GW is under tendering. India has also enhanced its ambition to install 450 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

This also includes the 1,370 MW solar projects that the Uttar Pradesh government has installed in the state in the past 4 years. The state government aims to install solar power projects of 10,700 MW capacity by 2022.

A government spokesperson said Yogi Adityanath was working on a plan to set up an ultra-mega solar park in UP apart from the 417 MW solar projects in the construction stage.

“Big investors are coming forward to invest in the solar energy sector in UP. Several investment proposals for solar power projects are under consideration,” he said.

Under the incentive provisions of UP Solar Policy-2017, 100 per cent exemption in stamp and electricity duty for 10 years is being given to investors through an online single-window clearance system. This has led to 11 private companies in the solar energy sector set up their plants in seven districts – Bundelkhand, Banda, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun, Jhansi and Lalitpur.

The business of solar panels, solar lights, solar batteries and solar cookers has also picked up in the state, providing jobs to thousands of people, he added.

“Another landmark day in the history of the Indian Power Sector. Our installed Renewable Energy capacity (excluding large Hydro) has crossed 1,00,000 Megawatts,” Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh said in a tweet.
