Government owned, Energy Efficient Services Ltd (EESL) will soon start distributing LED tube lights to consumers at around Rs 220 apiece, which is one-fourth of the prevailing market price of Rs 800.
According to a report in ET, EESL received the lowest bid of Rs 140 apiece of 20-watt tubelight in response to its tender for procurement of one crore LED tubelights, Depending on the taxes and storage charges, these lights will cost consumers Rs 210-230.
Replacement of conventional tubelights with LED ones result in annual average saving of Rs 350 and consumers can recover the cost within 7-8 months. The 18-20 watt LED tubelight come as an easy substitute for the conventional 42-watt ones that cost around Rs 200 per unit.
The lowest bid of Rs 140 per unit is a sharp fall from the earlier discovered price of around Rs 300 per unit. Major companies including Philips, Surya Roshni, Havells, Crompton Greaves and Osram India will participate in the procurement process.
EESL expects to start distribution of the LED tubelights from October this year on the lines of distribution of LED bulbs and energy-efficient fans.
