Sahasra Electronics will begin the production of Micro SD and SD cards in January 2023.
Rajasthan-based electronics manufacturing company, Sahasra Electronics, will indigenously manufacture memory chips and solid state drives (SSDs) for Indian CCTV and surveillance systems designer and manufacturer, Samriddhi Automations Pvt Ltd’s Sparsh CCTV.
The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and the production of Micro SD and SD cards will begin in January 2023.
Earlier in July, Sahasra had announced that it would invest around ₹7.5 billion to establish a manufacturing unit in the city of Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, for OSAT of semiconductor ICs. Phase-I of the project will have Sahasra focusing on memory ICs and subsystems.
Sahasra Semiconductors is one of the companies whose proposal to set up an ATMP (Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging) unit has been approved under the Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors (SPECS) of production linked incentive scheme.
Speaking on the occasion Amrit Manwani, CMD, Sahasra Semiconductors elaborated the company’s future outlook with respect to mass production. “Once the production of Micro SD and SD cards stabilises, we plan to move up the value chain to NAND Flash BGA and eMMC & eMCP packaging,” he said.
He explained that this way original equipment manufacturers would be able to source memory chips locally, which could be used in pen drives, SSDs, mobile phones, laptops, desktops and tablets.
The MOU signing ceremony was hosted by ELCINA in Delhi and graced by senior officials from MEITY. Joint Secretary of the India Semiconductor Mission, Amitesh Kumar Sinha, said that the government of India will soon be coming out with schemes to attract more semiconductor FABs and OSATs into the country, to give further impetus to the industry.
Sparsh’s MD, Sanjeev Sehgal lauded the development and said that out of the six layers of cyber security, hardware assurance was the first and most critical level that needed to be fulfilled. “Sparsh is committed and working towards full backward integration, achieved more than 85% domestic value addition as per the Public Procurement Preference to Make In India (PPP-MII) Policy and now working towards Atmanirbhar Bharat on Semiconductors,” he added.
Sparsh has launched IP Cameras and Recorders with in-built memory, bringing in next-generation products in the video surveillance domain.
