As the government of India  (GOI) has been trying to address property issues in rural areas, drone technology has emerged as a major assistance.

The Survey of India (SoI) is going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arunachal Pradesh government for undertaking a survey in the state for implementation of GOI’s Survey of Villages Abadi & Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) scheme.

The Survey of India (SOI),the national survey and mapping organization of India , as the technology partner will facilitate the government with survey of inhabited rural land by drone technology and establishment of ground based control stations.

Large scale mapping of rural inhabited areas (abadi) using Drone or UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) would be carried out using Professional Survey Grade UAVs which are Real Time Kinematic (RTK) / Post Point Kinematic (PTK) enabled. They use a high resolution red-green-blue (RGB) sensor on a 1:500 scale. Image capturing is better than 5 cm ground sample distance (GSD) ± 12.5 cm.

SOI shall also perform the establishment of continuous operating reference system (CORS) network, preparation of geoid model, ensure operation and maintenance of CORS network stations and provision of CORS network services. Accuracy is increased in a CORS network, because more than one station helps ensure correct positioning and guards against a false initialisation of a single base station.

These high resolution and accurate image base maps along with geographic information system (GIS) would facilitate creation of the most durable record of property holdings in areas with no legacy revenue records.

SVAMITVA flowchart mentioned in its official framework

Survey of Villages Abadi & Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) Scheme is a central sector scheme of government of India (GOI)  which aims to provide an integrated property validation solution for rural India.

Survey of India is the national survey and mapping organization of India, under the Department of Science & Technology. SoI prepares national topographic databases on all scales, using emerging technologies like airborne-photography, satellite imageries) and drone platforms with optical/infra-red sensors etc.
