The ‘Make in India’ initiative of the Indian government seems to have caught the eye of companies from the United States. It has been learnt that American manufacturing industry has appealed to the Obama government to talk to India so that they can remove the commercial and taxation barriers’ in order to make the US manufacturing companies invest in India in a big way.
We are well aware that India’s Prime Minister Naredra Modi has been quite vocal about making India a manufacturing hub be it electronics or strategic sector like defence. The opportunity that this country provides is huge and we have already witnessed numerous multinationals opening their manufacturing units in the mobile phone segment, primarily to cater to the ever groing smart phone market in India.
National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) CEO and president Jay Timmons has written a letter to Commerce Secretary Penny Pritzker and US Trade Representative Michael Froman. The letter says, “as detailed in the attached review of priorities, manufacturers in the United States are seeking tangible progress on India’s stated goals of improving the ease of doing business in India and advancing manufacturing and innovation in its economy to increase investment and growth.”
US manufacturing industry feels that India’s rapid economic growth provides great opportunity for them to invest in the country.
