While Indian companies are giving semiconductor designs to global partners, it is time for the country to become self-sufficient in terms of semiconductor manufacturing as well
The government of Karnataka is aiming of becoming the hub of fabless startups in India. It is also aiming to support the local ecosystem of electronics manufacturing by propelling Electronics System Design & Manufacturing Sector.
“ESDM sector in the country is predicted to reach USD 220 billion by 2025.It has the potential to create 1,000 start-ups, 10,000 IPs and around 10 lakh jobs,” noted C N Ashwath Narayan Karnataka Minister for Electronics, Information Technology and Biotechnology. He was speaking at the IESA Vision Summit taking place virtually.
The minister pointing out towards the semiconductor ecosystem in the country said that while Indian companies are giving semiconductor designs to global partners, it is time for the country to become self-sufficient in terms of semiconductor manufacturing as well.
India, as the minister pointed out, has over 100 semiconductor design service companies. He is confident that there will be a thrust for manufacturing of silicon semiconductor chips in the country.
IESA Chairman Rajeev Khushu had recently said that with series of government interventions like PMP, SPECS and PLI, India is set to become the global hub for electronic products and with an economy of this size it is important for the country to have its own component manufacturing and eco system.
IESA expects the electronics sector’s contribution to the GDP to double in a couple of years, as the government increases it efforts to boost electronics components manufacturing in the country.
