Swiss Fibre Major R&M Plans to Scale up India Manufacturing Facility

The company is also planning to increase its sales and services operations by increasing partners across the country

As India embarks on a roadmap to embrace the fifth-generation (5G) technology-based telecom service, Switzerland-based fibre manufacturer Reichle & De-Massari AG, or R&M, is planning to scale up its research & development (R&D) and manufacturing activities in the country to tap into the demand created by the government’s mega fibre push.

R&M chairman Hans Hess told ET that they are planning to further strengthen their Bengaluru operations for manufacturing as well as research & development. He added that the Indian government’s initiatives on digital connectivity has encouraged the company to expand its operations in the country.

The company had recently set up manufacturing operations in Bengaluru under the Centre’s Make in India initiative to supply fibre to telecom carriers and data centres worldwide.

According to Hess, the company is also planning to increase its sales and services operations by increasing partners across the country.

R&M aims to double headcount in the next few years

Besides making investments in the country, R&M has also created job opportunities with a nearly five-fold jump in the workforce and aims to double the headcount in the next few years, Hess told the daily.

The company has recently acquired US-based fibre connectivity firm Optimum Fiberoptics that specializes in industrial and governmental markets.

“Less percentage of people in India are connected to fibre, and we would like to help move this number forward. I think the National Fibre Authority (NFA) would surely support this,” Hess was quoted as saying.
