SUN Mobility Partners With Japan’s Terra Motors For EV Adoption In India

These EVs will have leverage from SUN Mobility’s battery technology, along with access to its SWAP POINTS some of which will also be placed at select Terra Motors dealership locations

SUN Mobility has joined hands with Terra Motors Corporation, a Japanese electric vehicle manufacturer to integrate Terra Motors’s three-wheeler passenger vehicles and two-wheeler platforms with SUN Mobility’s swappable batteries-based energy solution by June 2022.

These EVs will have leverage from SUN Mobility’s battery technology, along with access to its SWAP POINTS some of which will also be placed at select Terra Motors dealership locations, the joint company statement said.

Anant Badjatya, CEO, SUN Mobility, said, “The partnership will create a strong presence across the country with robust electric 3-wheeler products and enable the two companies to tangibly impact the lives of hundreds of people by making use of electric vehicles efficient, cheaper, and more convenient.”

According to the company, SUN Mobility’s interoperable smart mobility solution involves modular Smart Batteries that are safe, robust, efficient, and connected to the cloud. This system also addresses the issue of extensive charging times and range anxiety, as the spent batteries can be swapped for fully charged ones in less than 2 minutes.

Furthermore, the network of Quick Interchange Stations (SWAP POINTS) allows for ‘EV refueling’ in a faster, cheaper, and more convenient manner than for conventional petrol and diesel vehicles. This solution also works on a pay-per-use model that empowers EV users to pay for only the energy used per swap, said the company.

“The partnership with SUN Mobility, a pioneer in EV battery swapping space, is Terra Motors’ first such partnership. Moreover, this will be the first time that a charging and swapping infrastructure is being built in the East India region. In addition to the introduction of public charging/swapping infrastructure, SUN Mobility’s advanced technology and expertise, combined with Terra Motors’ extensive sales network and brand power, will add greater value and establish the company as an innovative service provider,” said Akihiro Ueda, CEO, Terra Motors.
