Samsung is the top seller of smartphones in Russia, with a market share of roughly 30 percent, followed by Xiaomi Corp
In light of the recent invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces, electronics giant Samsung has suspended product shipments to Russia citing “current geopolitical developments”. The products that have been suspended include smartphones, semiconductors and consumer electronics.
“We continue to actively monitor this complex situation to determine our next steps,” the company said.
This follows after other global giants like Apple and Microsoft have stopped sales and services in the country after it attacked Ukraine.
The company is also donating USD 6 million, including USD 1 million in consumer electronics, to actively support humanitarian efforts “around the region.”
Samsung said in a statement: “Our thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted and our priority is to ensure the safety of all our employees and their families. We plan to actively support humanitarian efforts around the region, including aid for refugees.”
Samsung is the top seller of smartphones in Russia, with a market share of roughly 30%, followed by Xiaomi Corp. at 23% and Apple Inc. at 13%, according to Counterpoint Research, which tracks handset shipments.
