Indian firm ReNew Power in association with China’s Hareon Solar has said that they have successfully commissioned a 72 MW solar project in Andhra Pradesh.
The Indian firm formed a joint venture with the Chinse counterpart in orfer to do the solar photovoltaic project which is located across two districts in the state, Kurnool and Prakasam.
The project was awarded in late 2014 and was part of 619 MW project that was suppose to come up in the state. It was awarded by two distribution units of Andhra Pradesh, the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited of Andhra Pradesh, and Eastern Power Distribution Company.
According to Jie Zhang, VP of global business development, Hareon Solar, “Hareon Solar has invested and commissioned more than 1 GW of PV projects across seven countries, and has announced several long-term investments in India, including PV power plants and high efficiency solar cell manufacturing.”
Under the National Solar Mission, the country has set an ambitious target to achieve 100 GW of solar implementations by 2022. Most of the state governments are opening up big tenders in order to implement as much solar energy as possible.
