Pune is soon going to get an exclusive electronics park. The park is going to be set up over 100 hectares of land along the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. It will be situated in the area spanning Navi Mumbai, Khalapur, Beur and Talegaon.
As per Sadashiv Survase, joint director (industries), the plan for the set up of the Electronics Park is in continuation with the Electronics Policy that was brought about by the state government. The policy endeavours to increase the presence of electronics industry in Pune and develop it as a major hub for the sector. He further added that out of the 32,000 small and medium enterprises operational in Pune, nearly 600 are from the electronics sector. Also, there are no large enterprises in the district catering to this sector.
Apart from this, Pune state government is also planning for the development of nodes along the expressway. The electronics parks is envisaged to create employment of skilled as well as semi-skilled workforce. The government is striving to attain a turnover of $12 billion from the sector by 2020. It also aims to increase its exports from the sector to $2 billion.
The Pune state government is also planning to set up anchor units in the state. The units will get more players in this sector. It will also boost Micro Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) units to set up operations around it.
