The Karnataka state government has gone a step ahead to ensure that each and every household in the state can afford to buy LED bulbs. The state government is planning to initiate equated monthly instalment (EMI) scheme for those who cannot afford to buy LED bulb at one go. After central sibsidy a LED bulb cost around Rs 80, but those in rural areas who cannot affort it can now go for EMI schemes where they can get the LED buld at Rs 10 and the rest they can pay off in monthly installments.
As on May 12th 2016, Energy Efficient Services Ltd (EESL) has been able to sell 95.53 lakh LED bulbs in the state with a turnover of Rs 10.40 crore and the company has been able to create a lot of awareness about the benefits of LED bulbs to the citizens of the state.
The company’s target is to sell six crores LED bulbs in the state and with the introduction of the EMI scheme it will help in achieving this target. This is an innovative approach that Karnataka government has come up with and the authorities are hoping that now many village people will also be buying LED bulbs.
