MG Motor India, a wholly-owned arm of China’s SAIC Motor Corp, has announced that it will launch its all-electric SUV in the fourth quarter (October-December) this year.

Initially, the vehicle will be launched in some select cities across the country, said Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India. However, he did not share details about the selected locations.

The company claims that its electric vehicles in the country would have over-the-air (OTA) technology and would go over 250 km in a single charge.

MG Motor will be the first in India to have OTA technology in their models. At present, the technology is not available on any car in the country.

OTA technology allows the auto maker to update its operating system in the vehicle helping refresh the content including entertainment features. OTA is a standard for the transmission and reception of application-related information in a wireless communication system.

MG Motor plans to launch one model in India every year

Over the next nine months, the company is planning to launch two models in India- Hector SUV and a fully electric SUV.

Hector is slated for launch during June quarter this year. MG Motor has already initiated trial production of the vehicle at its manufacturing facility at Halol, Gujarat.

MG Motor India also plans to launch one product each year in India starting 2019.
