Four cities — Nashik, Aurangabad, Pune and Mumbai- along with Nagpur, will see the crux of the investment
Aiming to become an EV manufacturing hub, Maharashtra’s state government is eyeing to pour in Rs 1 lakh crore in the next 10-12 years in the sector, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) CEO P Anbalagan said.
Four cities — Nashik, Aurangabad, Pune and Mumbai, along with Nagpur — will see the crux of the investment.
The MIDC has also allotted 75-acre to a US-based EV manufacturing firm at Talegaon in Pune. This firm will be investing around Rs 3,000 crore.
Anbalagan, who said e-vehicles are the future, said 22 percent of the entire automobile manufacturing sector in India is based in Maharashtra. Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and Aurangabad are the cities where a bulk of the automobiles are manufactured. Therefore, the state government is making efforts to promote EV manufacturing in these four cities.
The MIDC CEO said there is huge potentia l to develop an EV manufacturing hub in the Mumbai-Pune-NashikAurangabad g olden quadrilateral.
“Petrol and diesel vehicles cause 70% of the air pollution. There is a need to promote electric vehicles. The automobile companies will have to shift to EV manufacturing gradually over the next few years. There is huge potential and we are eying INR 1 lakh crore investment in this sector over the next 10-12 years,” said Anbalagan.
