Kerala, must focus more on electric vehicles, Union Minister of State Rajeev Chandrashekhar, said after visiting Integrated Startup Complex (ISC) located near Kochi. The minister said that focus should also be on electronics design system, which also happens to be one of Kerala’s strengths.
Pointing out towards Indian startups rise in the software sector, the minister also noted that the make village at ISC can contribute significantly in the electronics hardware domain. He is of the view that electric vehicles will provide enormous opportunities to entrepreneurs as the vertical is in its nascent stages.
He urged Indian entrepreneurs to explore more in the space, and take a lead by developing products and solutions for the Indian, as well as the international markets. The minister said that entrepreneurs must know how to sell the products they create.
Speaking recently at the Public Affairs Forum of India (PAFI) he had noted electronics to be the second largest traded commodity after hydrocarbons and petroleum, and mentioned that the Centre expects the sector to reach around USD 300 billion (about Rs 22.5 lakh crore) by 2024-25.
“India has a once in a lifetime opportunity. I call it the Y2K moment for Technology and Electronics sector. The Narendra Modi Govt. is committed to work with semiconductor companies and startups and will provide the right policy framework,” he had said recently.
