The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) recently announced the launch of its Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). The launch will commence from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), located in Sriharikota, on August 7, 2022. According to the announcement made by ISRO, the launch mission will commence at 0918 hours in Indian Standard Time (IST). ISRO has facilitated the public to watch the launch up close if they register to view the launch from the ISRO’s launch viewers gallery.

ISRO has pioneered the development of the SSLV to launch satellites in the lower earth orbit, which weigh less than 500 kg. Such low orbit satellites are in a lot of demand for various applications, including but not limited to earth monitoring and observation, along with providing internet and wireless connections to remote and hard-to-reach areas. The primary consignment for the first demonstration launch mission of SSLV is a satellite used for earth monitoring, known as MicroSat 2A. An SSLV rocket can be manufactured and readied for launch within a week to quench the rising demands of the space sector, according to ISRO.

ISRO on Monday invited the public citizens to the viewing gallery of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota to catch a glimpse of the launch of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D1) Mission, scheduled for Sunday, August 7.

“The launch of the SSLV-D1/EOS-02 Mission is scheduled for Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 9:18 am (IST) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota. ISRO invites citizens to the Launch View Gallery at SDSC to witness the launch. Registration is open at https://lvg.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATION/index.jsp,” they tweeted.

The SS1 motor used is a solid propulsion stage, three-segmented engine, which incorporates cutting-edge technology and innovative processes. The bond-free joint between the segments, high-power electromechanical actuator in tandem with digital control electronics, optimised ignitor and propellant casting are some of the highlights of the latest tech.
