Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has informed that Huawei Telecommunications (India) has been given security clearance by Ministry of Home Affairs to set up a unit for electronics/telecom hardware and support services at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu. This is a major news for Huawei who has been very keen on setting up a manufacturing unit in the country. Huawei is one of the world’s largest telecommunications equipment makers.
Prasad also said that no telecom operator has entered into partnership with Chinese companies in the communications sector although some foreign firms, including Chinese, have supplied mobile and broadband equipment to them, adding that foreign firms, including Chinese, supply mobile handsets and set top boxes.
The government has shown always concern over security of telecom networks and all telecom service providers should be responsible for their networks.
Recently it has been reported that Huawei is targeting to double its annual revenue from its business-to-business (B2B) units to $80 billion by 2020, said Eric Xu, one of the company’s three rotating chief executives during its annual Global Analyst Summit.
