In order to encourage for local manufcaturing, the government is working on a new policy which will provide more rebates and subsidies to companies who start solar manufcaturing units in the country. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has set up a committee headed by Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, and it has suggested that the government should now give more subsidies to encourage solar manufacturers.
All these proposals are expected to reach the Ministry of Finance soon, this was recently said by Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy.
Under the National Solar Mission, India has set an ambitious target of deploying 100 GW of solar energy in the country. The Prime Minister has categorically stated the benefits of using renewable energy and how India should leverage from solar power and reduce carbon emissions.
Goyal has said that the subsidy support will be given on the basis of a reverse bidding process so those interested in setting up integrated solar plants (which manufacturers solar cells, solar photovoltaic modules, ingots and wafers) can bid for the least amount of subsidy required to be competitive in the market.
