The previous year, the government had announced a Union Budget for the promotion of ‘Make in India’ as well as ‘Digital India’. This year, it is going to make announcement regarding certain funds for schemes and programmes relating to these projects. The fund allocation for Digital India plan is presumed to be more when compared to last year.
The government may be announcing a budget of ₹5,7780 million under the ‘Digital India’ programme under different schemes. This could be four-fold higher than previous year’s budget. This was informed by sources related to Business Line.
It is expected that for schemes like Electronic Governance, the government may propose funds amounting to ₹16500 million in comparison to ₹4500 million that was done in 2015. Under ‘National Knowledge Network’, the government might propose fund of 10000 million as compared to ₹1500 million in 2015.
In the same way, for promoting electronics and IT hardware manufacturing programme, the Finance Ministry is going to put in ₹8550 million from ₹690 million in 2015. The government may also increase its budget for promoting IT/ITeS industries by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) to ₹5430 million from ₹5o million in 2015. With respect to R&D in IT/electronics, the government may be allocating ₹8880 million in comparison to ₹1160 million in 2015.
