California based electronic manufacturing services (EMS) firm Sanmina Corporation is contemplating to set up printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing unit in Odisha. The company is also considering to set up a research and development (R&D) centre in the state as well.
The company had already annouced that it would be investing Rs 1,000 crore under the ‘Make in India’ initiative to build the manufacturing unit. The state government has hinted that senior officials from Sanmina are expected to visit government officials soon in order to fasten the process.
Sanmina is one of the largest EMS players globally and it manufactures PCBs and supplies it to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The company has close to 80 manufacturing units in the world and now it is targetting India, since electronics manufacturing is become the focus of the nation.
Odisha is one of the states that is encouraging electronics manufacturing and for this the state has come up with a greenfield electronic manufacturing cluster on the outskirts of Bhubaneshwar. It is expected to house more than 100 electronic manufacturing companies in the future. In terms of policies also, the state government has decided to give incentives for electronic system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector.
