Following a series of protests and a subsequent temporary shutdown of its Sriperumbudur plant, Taiwanese electronics maker Foxconn’s plant has been put on prpbation by its biggest client– Apple Inc.
A spokesperson from Apple said in a statement, “We hold our suppliers accountable to the highest standards in the industry and regularly conduct assessments to ensure compliance…we found that some of the remote dormitory accommodations and dining rooms being used for employees do not meet our requirements and we are working with the supplier to ensure a comprehensive set of corrective actions are rapidly implemented.”
The tech giant did not inform how long will the probation last for but said it dispatched independent auditors to assess the situation, which also means that the company will not provide new orders to the facility till the issues are sorted out.
