More than 1,24,000 electric vehicles have already benefited from the existing FAME II scheme. The extended scheme might cover more electric vehicles
In a move that might encourage the electric vehicle ecosystem in the country, the centre is thinking about extending the already existing FAME II scheme in India. With some new changes, the announcement of FAME III scheme (as the govt may like to call it), the new extended scheme might get announced soon.
The new scheme, as per a report by the Economic Times, might also include subsidies for electric bicycles. The scheme might also include all types of e-two wheelers, e-three wheelers. e-four wheelers, commercial vehicles and public transport vehicles.
There might also be a revised structure for benefits offered on purchase of passenger cars. FAME II scheme has been one of those which have not only benefited the end buyers, ut has also encouraged the EV companies tp ramp up business in the country.
The FAME II scheme was originally launched with a budget outlay of Rs 10,000 crore in April 2019> It was aimed towards supporting 7,000 e-buses, 5,00,000 e-three-wheelers, 55,000 e-passenger vehicles and a million e-two-wheelers.
More than 1,24,000 electric vehicles have already benefited from the existing FAME II scheme. Karnataka (25,725 EVs), Tamil Nadu (19,222 EVs), Maharashtra (13,384 EVs), Uttar Pradesh (7,990 EVs), Rajasthan (10,010 EVs) and Delhi (8,897 EVs), are the leading states in terms of having received benefits from the scheme.
