In an innovative attempt to utilise and apply cutting-edge technology, the Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a drone survey that will be executed as a state-wide campaign, giving a cutting-edge perspective to the state’s civic cleanliness vision.
The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to conduct a drone survey of all the drains in the state. As per reports, this aerial survey will help to identify sewer lines that require repair while keeping a check on the issue of water clogging during monsoon. Once the affected sites are marked, authorities can take due action.
The statewide campaign will be conducted under the authority of Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary Department of Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh. Directives for the same have been directed to Municipal Corporations of Lucknow, Aligarh, Agra, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ghaziabad, Kanpur Nagar and Meerut to ensure proper upkeep of all drains. Camera-fitted drones will be used to monitor their conditions, on a scheduled basis.
This advanced approach of an aerial survey will record the GPS coordinates and position of the concerned drains and evaluate their length, width and depth through photographs and videos in a pre-defined format. The files will be then sent to the Director, Urban Local Bodies Directorate, Lucknow so that action can be taken by authorities. Reportedly, strict action will also be taken against officials who fail to restore and sustain drains and sewer lines in their respective areas.
The drone survey mission has been formulated to eliminate and limit the issue of water-logging, and flooding of drains during monsoons, officials said. It will also help to streamline traffic flow and prevent any congestions that are common during monsoon.
