Chandigarh To Set Incentives of 1.5 Lakhs For Purchase of EVs As Per Draft EV Policy

As the Centre amps up its effort to hasten the shift to electric mobility completely, Chandigarh’s administration has increased the upper limit of incentive for the purchase of electric cars from Rs 75,000 to Rs 1,50,000 in its draft electric vehicle (EV) policy.

There will be incentives of Rs 5,000 per kilowatt for buyers of electric two-wheelers subject to maximum of Rs 30,000; Rs 10,000 per kilowatt for registered owners of electric cars subject to maximum of Rs 1,50,000, which was earlier Rs 75,000, according to the proposal.

For purchase of electric three-wheelers, including e-rickshaws, e-carts, e-autos, an incentive of Rs 30,000 will be given.

Additionally, the UT has also removed the limit on the number of cars. Earlier, the UT had fixed a limit on a number of cars which will get incentives. Besides, there will be a waiver of road tax and registering fees up to March 31, 2024.

The draft policy, which was discussed before the UT adviser Dharam Pal, also aims to setup at least 50 public charging stations in the city, and at least one public charging station in every sector.

Earlier, the administration had proposed that state level financial incentive will be given on purchase of all types of electric vehicles except high end electric vehicles above Rs 15 lakh. But recently, the UT has decided to remove the upper limit of Rs 15 lakhs on purchase of electric vehicles.
