BSNL Partners With Google To Expand WiFi Connectivity In India

BSNL is also taking steps to increase the rural WiFi footprint promoting the government initiative of ‘Digital India’.

State-run telco BSNL said that it has joined hands with internet major Google to expand its WiFi footprint across the country. The telco said that the new initiative will help the customers to use BSNL high-speed internet services on WiFi.

BSNL Director (CFA) Board Shri Vivek Banzal said in a statement commented that BSNL has been partnering with various technology companies upgrading their platforms and increasing their customer reach in this era of ever-increasing demand of high-speed internet, reported Financial Express.

The telco said that it is also taking steps to increase the rural WiFi footprint promoting the government initiative of ‘Digital India’.

Google going strong
Google has previously completed the rollout of RailWAccording to an Analysys Mason study, public Wi-Fi will connect 40 million new users to the internet by 2019 and that around 100 million people would be willing to spend an additional $2 to 3 billion per year on handsets.

A similar amount will be spent on cellular mobile broadband services, as a result of experiencing fast broadband on public Wi-Fi in Indiaire Wi-Fi across 400 railway stations in partnership with RailTel in India. It had also bagged a deal along with RailTel and Larsen & Toubro to deploy 150 Google Station hotspots in Pune.

Future of Wifi in India
According to an Analysys Mason study, public Wi-Fi will connect 40 million new users to the internet by 2019 and that around 100 million people would be willing to spend an additional $2 to 3 billion per year on handsets and a similar amount on cellular mobile broadband services, as a result of experiencing fast broadband on public Wi-Fi in India.

In addition to driving productivity improvements from high-speed Wi-Fi for the overall economy, public Wi-Fi can also translate into tangible benefits to GDP, by around $20 billion between 2017-19 and at least $10 billion per annum thereafter, the study said.
