Energy company, Adani is going to construct a solar power station in Queensland.
As per the company’s Green Energy chief executive, Jayant Parimal, the company is looking for setting up a large scale solar power project and Moranbah in all probability is going to be the chosen location. Parimal said, “We have applied for a licence and after we get this then we will start planning for the plant.”
At present, Ergon Energy has tenders for the supply of nearly150 megawatts from solar providers under the renewable energy target and the State Government will be holding an auction for another 60 megawatts.
Adani is also planning for building two huge coal-fired power stations in India which is going to cost over $US2 billion. Other coal companies that are planning to branch out to solar energy include AGL and Origin Energy. However, Adani is leading the race.
According to Greenpeace climate change campaigner, Shani Tager, the Adani solar scheme is in its early stages and if it is seen to be genuine then it must be welcomed. She also said that the company is giving mixed messages as it is still purshing the Carmichael coal mine and in the same go developing solar.
According to Australia’s Energy Minister, Mark Bailey, he will welcome any private sector interest in developing Queensland’s renewable energy industry along with future jobs that go along with it.
Adani is also planning for a 1000 megawatt solar power station in India.
