MediaTek and Intel partnership to finally looks forward to the launch of the new 5G chipset. Both the companies had joined hands in 2019 for exclusively manufacturing the chipsets. Earlier, it had also been reported that Intel is not making 5G chipsets anymore. Hence, the partnership with Media Tek was a smart move.

The collaboration is launching the new MediaTek T700 5G modem. Intel would be using its expansive OEM network, as the hardware is ready, and this would get them to use the processor. As reported earlier, Qualcomm is providing its Snapdragon 800 series processor for all-time connected PCs. Hence, Intel is also looking forward to make similar impact with the new MediaTek 5G unit.

Pushing the 5G modem

MediaTek also shared that the modem was used to make standalone 5G calls, without the reliance on 4G LTE network while running its tests. The company has also claimed that the 5G powered laptops would be offering power-efficient performance. Thus 5G speeds over network would not end up draining the battery. Media Tek’s 5G modem for PCs is based on Helio M70 5G modem which the Taiwanese chip maker introduced for smartphones.
