Indian government has set a new target of 10 GW of solar power generation by 2017, the year India is aiming to reach grid parity. The first phase of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) is scheduled to be completed this year.

The scenario in the states
Gujarat accounts for close to 58 per cent of the country’s total solar power output of 1000 MW, followed by Rajasthan with nearly 17 per cent contribution to the solar output. Other states are way behind their targets. However, state governments are coming out with schemes to promote solar power generation in a big way.
