During an interaction with Nitisha Dubey from EFY, Ratul Borah of Elecnovo Private Limited, talks about his patent technologies and future growth strategies…

Q. Please talk about Elecnovo and its special offerings.

A. Elecnovo was founded in March 2018. We specialise in designing, developing, manufacturing, and supplying electric motors for wide range of applications, including electric vehicles (EV). Our technology includes permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) motors and brush less DC (BLDC) motors. We are also developing new technologies such as synchronous reluctance motors (SRM) and axial flux (AF) motors. We design and develop motor and control systems and solutions, which are customised to application requirements.

Q. What sets Elecnovo apart in electric motor production?

A. Elecnovo is all about innovations and inventions. We engineer and implement technologies as solutions to specific problems. We design, develop and manufacture all our motor technologies in-house. We have filed patents for four of our inventions and three of these patents have already been granted. We have developed capability and control over the development and production of our motors.

Q. What innovative patents have you developed?

A. One patent leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning to optimise the performance of electrically operated vehicles, incorporating a motor, controller, vehicle, optimisation model, and data. This innovation eliminates the need for manual calibration, reducing errors and costs while enhancing accuracy and speed. It is applicable to any type of electrically operated vehicle. Another patent enhances BLDC motors by removing the need for physical sensors, which simplifies manufacturing and boosts reliability. A third patent focuses on improving vehicle operations through algorithms that achieve the desired speed, increase efficiency, and enhance user experience, reliability, and safety. Additionally, a pending patent introduces an electronic commutation system for electric motors, aiming to improve performance and reliability. These patents collectively advance electric motor and electric vehicle technologies.

A. We offer a range of electric motors from 1kW to 20kW, catering to performance needs of wide range of applications. Customers often require different voltage, speed, torque, power and other technical conditions. We can quickly customise our products to meet specific needs. Our motors are designed to be easily integrated into vehicles and other applications. Our engineering capabilities allow us to swiftly meet customer requirements and provide engineered solutions for specific requirements.

Q. How do you ensure reliable electric motor performance?

A. Our methodical approach and implementation on design and development process ensures performance and reliability. We follow strict design and safety guidelines and conduct simulations and validations before production.

Q. Who is your target audience?

A. Our target customers include manufacturers of light-duty electric vehicles, such as electric motorcycles, scooters, three-wheelers, light goods and passenger vehicles. Additionally, we provide solutions to makers of other electrically operated vehicles and equipment, such as agricultural and infrastructure machinery, root cleaning equipment, robotic vehicles, and electric boats. These segments are experiencing significant growth, and we are currently providing our solutions to these applications.

Q. What is your primary revenue source?

A. Our revenue primarily comes from selling our solutions to manufacturers of electrically operated vehicles or machines. We have supplied our products to over 50 customers.

Q. Is there a plan to expand manufacturing facilities?

A. Currently, we are focusing on expanding our existing facility in Bengaluru. We are enhancing our R & D and testing capabilities and adding up our production capacity.

Q. What challenges has your business encountered?

A. We need to work on couple of important missions. The first is identifying a unique product idea with differentiations. Next, building a team with the right skills, motivation, and passion is crucial. Then, securing necessary resources, such as facilities and equipment, is important. Identifying reliable suppliers is critical. Patience is essential as our product requires a long qualification process. We maintain high quality and reliability of our products.

Q. What is the company’s strategy for growth and collaboration?

A. We collaborate with our customers to improve our products and assist customers to achieve their objectives. We collaborate with our suppliers to produce quality components, which are needed for maintaining performance and consistency of our product. We aim to enhance our manufacturing capability independently to maintain high performance and more reliability. We are also developing new motor technologies, specifically synchronous reluctance motors and axial flux motors to offer enhanced performance. We welcome investments from India and overseas to accelerate our journey of growth.

Q. How has the company’s revenue growth been?

A. Our revenue has been increasing multifold over the last years. We are forecasting significant growth of our products and revenues over the coming years.
