Friday, July 12, 2013: India’s manufacturing sector is set to take a giant leap forward, with the government announcing a slew of measures to boost domestic manufacturing. As a result, various companies catering to different sectors such as consumer electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. With the government promoting the solar sector as well, many solar power plants are also coming up across the country. Besides these, there are also many testing centres and design houses being set up.

The setting up of new production facilities, solar plants, testing centres and design houses will also help in developing many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, surface mount technology (SMT) and through-hole machines, components, chemicals and consumables, etc.

Lanco Solar is setting up a solar cell manufacturing plant in the special economic zone (SEZ) in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. The plant, with a capacity of 300 MW, will start production next year. The company is investing Rs 30,000 million in setting up the plant. Initially, the plant will export nearly 15 per cent of the solar cells it will make. This project would help Lanco generate an approximate revenue of US$ 300 million. Bosch has opened a new automotive parts manufacturing plant at Oragadam in Chennai, with an investment of Rs 350 million. The new 9000sq m facility has been built on an area of 40,000 sq m, which will replace the previously rented facility. The new unit includes facilities for design, development and testing, in addition to the production of actuation, thermal and wiper systems for the Indian automotive market. Welspun Energy Ltd Deals in: Renewable energy, and develops solar projects |
Welspun Energy is establishing a 60MW solar power plant in Tamil Nadu, from where it will supply solar power to Tamil Nadu’s power distributors. Welspun Energy is also expected to complete its 130MW solar PV plant in Madhya Pradesh this August, and would start selling solar power to Madhya Pradesh’s state-owned electricity distribution utility. The company is also planning to invest about Rs 10 billion in Chhattisgarh to put up a plant to generate 100 MW of solar power.
