BHEL, along with five other major companies, is launching an ultra mega solar power project (UMSPP) with a cumulative capacity of 4000 MW. This will be set up in Rajasthan in the Sambhar Salts Ltd (SSL) area, about 75 km from Jaipur. The plant will be set up in two phases over a period of seven years with Phase I comprising 1000 MW. Welspun has started the construction of a 50 MW solar PV plant in Pune. Welspun will cover 60 per cent of the project’s costs and receive 62 per cent of the revenue generated. It plans to build the Baramati solar plant in two phases. The capacity to generate 36 MW will be installed first on 75 hectares of government land; the remaining part of the plant to generate 14 MW will be built after the acquisition of another 30 hectares.
