Amara Raja Batteries Ltd has launched the world’s largest integrated medium VRLA plant at Nunegundlapalli near Chittoor. Spread across 500 acres, it has been set up with an outlay of Rs 3500 million. The plant will manufacture 3.5 million UPS batteries every year and can generate employment for 1500 people. A second plant is under construction and two more plants—one for tubular batteries and another for plastic batteries—will soon commence operations. NTL Lemnis is planning to double its production capacity to 1 million pieces per month in 2014-15. The company has invested Rs 1500 million in its seven plants in Noida, Dehradun and Roorkee, besides investing nearly Rs 250 million on setting up its eighth plant. Videocon Industries is planning to set up a new set-top box (STB) manufacturing unit with an annual capacity of one million, by the end of 2014. The location of the facility is yet to be finalised, with Punjab and Madhya Pradesh being shortlisted. In October, Videocon had increased the production capacity of its existing STB plant from 0.7 million to 1 million units per year.
