Mitatronics to soon offer services for life cycle testing of electronic systems

Established in the year 2006, Mitatronics has grown exponentially from a small prototype manufacturing facility to one of the most sought after electronics manufacturing partners to OEM clients in India. The company has successfully executed projects that cover all aspects of electronics manufacturing services. And going forward, it plans to focus on increasing its capacity and broadening its services portfolio.

How the journey unfolded
Amit Shah, CEO, Mitatronics, reminisces about how the company started, saying, “In the past decade, Mitatronics has grown from a boot-strapped prototype shop to an established electronics manufacturing services organisation. Since inception, Mitatronics has always focused on instilling a principal-partner relationship with the OEMs, rather than a customer-vendor relationship.” The company has focused on rising up the value chain for principals and aligning with them to support their growth.

Shah says, “It is this mindset that has always helped us foster a strong bond with our principals and motivated us to keep reinvesting in our infrastructure and team. Our continued focus on the resources to utilisation ratio and the 100 per cent contract manufacturing philosophy has helped us establish ourselves as a credible EMS organisation in India.”

Involvement in the NPI process
The company expedites any NPI (new product introduction) process by working with its clients on the following essentials:

  • New concept development
  • Managing the supply chain and selection of components
  • Documenting the DFX (design for excellence) issues pertaining to product quality specifications
  • Design of jigs for improving manufacturing efficiency
  • Development of jigs for product functional testing

Products manufactured and production capacity
Mitatronics is aligned with OEMs from almost all industry verticals. The company is involved in manufacturing electronic products for various applications ranging from power supplies, home automation, industrial machines, defence electronics, medical electronics, wind power electronics, automotive displays, office automation, tracking systems, etc.

The company currently has three surface mount lines and two wave soldering lines with over 100 technicians on the shop floor. Since the company manufactures electronic systems for various applications, the complexities and volumes differ. On an average, the firm manufactures 75,000 PCB assemblies per month.

Over the past decade, Mitatronics has been expanding its footprint, gathering clients in India as well as overseas. The company has clients spread across most northern states of India. Its global clients are in the US and Europe.

Success mantra
Sourcing of original material, delivering within short lead times and offering reasonable pricing are the reasons behind the success of any manufacturing organisation. A good vendor must deliver on all three fronts, as Mitatronics has.

Recent investments
In 2019, Mitatronics will relocate to its new location in Navi Mumbai. The new facility will be equipped with advanced infrastructure to enable quality manufacturing and efficient processes. The facility increases the factory area by 100 per cent. Mitatronics will be installing its fourth manufacturing line in the new facility along with an AOI station by September 2019. This expansion will allow the company to support increased volumes from its principals and also explore business opportunities with new OEMs.

With the expansions scheduled for the coming year, Mitatronics is on course with its strategy and plans to increase its footprint in the electronics manufacturing services space. In the near future, Mitatronics plans to enhance its value addition capabilities for clients by providing services for life cycle testing of electronic systems.

Importance of quality
Mitatronics is an ISO 9001-2015 certified organisation and has carved out a niche for itself by providing manufacturing services to the low/medium volume, high mix/high quality electronic products. Shah says, “Our approval ratings in this segment of the industry are a testimony of our strong focus on quality and service. Our foundation is based upon strong in-depth knowledge about various aspects of electronics packaging and an appreciation of its multi-disciplinary nature. We have devised our own in-house quality management system that enables us to offer customised manufacturing services to our principals but in a mass manufacturing environment. We are determined to provide our partners with a quality product coupled with efficient service. Our technically strong in-house management team and efficient domestic/overseas supply chain ensure that our quality is high, right from individual components to the final box build.”

In a short period of twelve years, Mitatronics has been recognised for its contribution to the EMS industry. The company has been ranked among the ‘Ten Most Promising Electronics Manufacturing Services Providers 2017’ by Silicon India magazine and the ‘25 Fastest Growing Electronics Manufacturing Organisations of India 2018-2019’ by CEO magazine.
Take on ‘Make In India’

Shah believes that the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, coupled with the recent electoral outcome, makes these very exciting times for the industry. He says, “With our expansion plans in this fiscal, we hope to have positioned ourselves to gain from this anticipated industry growth.”

The electronics manufacturing industry in India is currently focused on manufacturing activities that form a very small subset of the overall requirements. Local expertise in manufacturing/assembling semiconductors, MEMS, MOEMS, flip chips, 3D electronics, wearable electronics, photovoltaics, etc, are either still at a very nascent stage in India or unexplored. Shah hopes the ‘Make in India’ initiative helps to attract technology firms from all verticals mentioned to invest in India. This will certainly create a foundation for exponential and sustained growth in the times to come.
