JMK Research’s latest monthly report shows that the total energy generated from renewable sources stood at 14413.2 MU in January 2023, up by 15.5% from December 2022. Notably, solar and wind energy generation increased by 13.3% and 25.3% respectively on a month-on-month basis in January.
The report further pointed out that 14 new renewable energy (RE) tenders with a cumulative capacity of 7966 MW were issued last month. Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (RUVNL) issued a 1500 MW wind-solar hybrid with a storage tender and floated a 1000 MW solar tender.
As per JMK’s price survey with domestic suppliers for January 2023, the all-inclusive domestic module prices till the project site (including freight charges, GST etc) for mono PERC 440 Wp, mono PERC 500 Wp and Polycrystalline 330 Wp modules have remained the same in January 2023.
Among major solar updates in January, Amazon securing a category-III power trading licence in India and building a portfolio of wind and solar power to sell on local electricity exchanges holds significance. As per sources, India may exempt 30 GW capacity solar projects from paying duties on imports. The report mentioned that in March 2021, the government announced 25% basic customs duties on solar PV cells and 40% on PV modules to block Chinese imports and encourage indigenous manufacturing.
It also noted that exemptions are being considered for projects that were awarded under tariff-based bidding by central agencies before the announcement was made on March 9, 2021. Interestingly, India added around 11 GW of utility-scale solar capacity in 2022, which is 47% higher than 2021 installations.
