In our 50th year, we wanted to take up projects that are important for the Indian electronics industry. One such project was to conduct a research to find out media consumption patterns of various stakeholders within the Indian electronics ecosystem. We realised that this report will help all of us to review and improve our communication strategies, which in turn should enable the industry to grow faster. We have never seen such a report before, and are gratified and pleased at having taken this initiative.

Top 5 findings
1. Technology trends matter most: The key finding of this survey is that technology trends matter most to the stakeholders of this sector. “When asked to choose between the tech trends and business trends, 81 per cent of the respondents chose tech trends,” claims the report (Figure 1).

2. Publications are the preferred source to discover important topics: Seventy-four per cent of the respondents believed that publications are the “preferred source to discover important topics,” which they then find out more about through the Web. These two findings clearly establish the dominance of tech publications as mediums that influence the entire ESDM ecosystem (Figure 1).

3. Electronics For You emerges as the No. 1 brand among publications: With respect to top-of-the-mind recall among business and trade publications, Electronics For You (EFY) emerged as the clear leader, with a whopping 68 per cent recall! The next two brands were IEEE Spectrum (2 per cent) and Electronics Bazaar (1 per cent) (Figure 2).

4. Electronicsforu.com is India’s No.1 website on electronics: When surveyed about the top-of-the-mind recall for websites, electronicsforu.com topped the list with a 61 per cent recall factor, ieee.org with a 34 per cent recall factor, and allaboutcircuit.com with 28 per cent recall (Figure 3).

5. Facebook and LinkedIn are the most popular social media platforms: Facebook and LinkedIn are the most preferred social media platforms for sharing information related to the electronics industry/products. Thirty per cent use Facebook and 28 per cent use LinkedIn to exchange knowledge on the electronics industry (Figures 4 and 5).
