TATA Joins Army For EV Charging at Delhi Cantt

  • Indian Army partnered with TATA Power to set up 16 EV charging stations in Delhi Cantonment

In the latest development on the Electric Vehicles (EV) front by the Indian Army, 16 EV charging stations were recently inaugurated at various locations in Delhi Cantonment. It is noteworthy that the Indian Army, through its ‘Go-Green Initiative’ has collaborated with TATA Power, India’s largest integrated utility, to set up these stations. The inauguration was carried out by Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, GOC Delhi Area in the presence of army officials and senior executives from TATA Power and TATA Motors.

The official statement specified that all 16 charging stations in Delhi Cantonment can be used both for personal and official EVs in Delhi Cantonment. It further said that the Indian Army is providing suitable facilities for setting up EV charging stations along with arranging upstream power infrastructure to energise the chargers.

The first such EV charging station was inaugurated at Taurus Station Canteen by Lt Gen Seth. “This is a unique initial step by the Indian Army and TATA Power towards implementation of Government of India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) and Indian Army’s ‘Go-Green’ Initiative,” he said at the event.

Lt Gen Seth urged everyone to contribute towards these eco-friendly initiatives to maintain an emission-free environment, a bounden duty, mankind has towards future generations.

Business Development Head at TATA Power, Mr Virendra Goyal stated: “This is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between two of India’s remarkable legacy organisations, one of which guarantees territorial security and the other is enhancing the nation’s energy security with clean and green energy products and solutions. We are pleased to work with the Indian Army to set up convenient fast charging stations for EV users within the Delhi Cantonment. To speed up the transition to clean mobility, we will keep working with like-minded institutions to jointly develop EV charging infrastructure in line with the Government of India’s National Electric Mobility Mission Plan.”

It is noteworthy that TATA Power also has an ‘EZ charge’ mobile app, for easier access to the charging stations. It is laced with features to provide a seamless EV charging experience to EV users including e-payment and the location of the nearest EV charging station. TATA Power has set up over 450 EV charging points across 350 national highways in the country, which span over 25 states and 5 Union territories.
