The Twinstar Overseas’ subsidiary will supply 600MW RTC Renewable Power to Vedanta

Indian states like Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra will soon witness hybrid (solar and wind) power projects running as the green energy company Serentica Renewables is planning to install over 1500 MW of renewable energy projects. The company announced the launch of a renewable energy platform, which will provide round-the-clock (RTC) carbon-free power to large energy consumers in India.

Serentica expects to commission the projects within two years. It is noteworthy that it has already acquired connectivity approvals in the aforementioned states. It has been learnt that around 600 MW of renewable power produced would be supplied to different entities of the Vedanta Group.

A statement from the company reads: “Serentica is committed to reversing climate change by decarbonising energy-intensive industries such as Steel, Cement, Aluminium and Zinc. Industries account for over 30% of total carbon emissions. In India, most of the electricity demand of industrial consumers is met through thermal sources. We want to take advantage of the best-in-class policy framework rolled out by the Government of India to promote green energy in the C&I (Commercial & Industrial) sector.” The company also stated its interest to participate, though selectively, in Government tenders subject to the project having synergies with its overall focus of providing direct green energy solutions to commercial and industrial (C&I) customers.

It is interesting to note that Serentica Renewables is an arm of Twinstar Overseas, which also owns controlling stakes in Sterlite Power Transmission and Sterlite Technologies. Its medium-term strategy is to install 5,000 MW of carbon-free generation capacity along with various storage techs. But the company says that it ultimately aims to supply over 15 billion units of clean energy annually and displace 20 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in the long run.
