ESSCI signs MoU with LG Electronics for Setup a Centre of Excellence and Multi-Skill Training to Underprivileged Youth

The ESSCI – Electronics Sector Skills Council of India and the LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on Tuesday to set up a ‘Centre of Excellence (CoE) for electronics industry at the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) Okhla. The MoU was exchanged between Dr Abhilasha Gaur, COO of ESSCI, and Mr Tae Jin Chang, Head Customer Service (Director), LG Electronics India Private Ltd in the august presence of Mr Rajesh Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of  Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Mr Prakash Sharma, CFO, NSDC, P Udayakumar, Chairman & MD NSIC, Atul Vijayvergiya, DGM LG Skill Academy and Mr OP Singh, General Manager, NSIC.

The Centre of Excellence is aims for skill training in different   job roles to underprivileged youth in the fields of consumer electronics & appliances and collaborative Research & Capability Building in the areas of electronics as well. It will also provide an institutionalised platform for Industry – Academia interactions and leverage the expertise available with industry and sector skill council. Also, will help to implement an apprenticeship program under NAPS and become an industry partner for B.Voc. /B.Sc. program in the electronics sector. 

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, MSDE said: “The MoU will meet the need of the electronics industry, as it will encourage Research and development in the sector and undertake capacity building. The technological and industrial changes are happening at a rapid pace  and the coming together of the Academic and Industrial organizations will give best desired results.”

Mr Amrit Manwani, Chairman, ESSCI said: “To create a manufacturing ecosystem, we, at ESSCI, are mandated to provide skills set to youth of the country and provide skilled to the industry. We are moving from service sector job to manufacturing sector. It is important to train the workforce to use these new technologies in a much more effective fashion. The Council is in the process of reinventing itself and deeply studying the trends which are going to define the emerging electronics sector. The CoE will be engaged in research, development, demonstration and execution of innovative technologies and solutions on different thematic areas in the electronics domain.”

Dr Abhilasha Gaur, COO, ESSCI said: “Industry and academia jointly can turn India into Skill Capital of the world. We have revised, rationalised and added 29 new Qualification packs as per demand for the futuristics job role. As sector skill council we have taken the step forward. I strongly believe this partnership with the LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd will help culminate in the electronics sector of India taking skilling, reskilling, and upskilling to unprecedented heights.” 

Mr Tae Jin Chang, Head Customer Service (Director), LG Electronics India Private Ltd, said: “With our latest technology and expertise, we will establish a world class skill academy with the help of ESSCI. We will train the candidate with the world’s best class environment for making a skilled employable youth in different job roles.”  

ESSCI is a strong contributor to fulfilling the skilling needs of the vibrant ESDM sector in India. We work closely with industry, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Ministry of Skill Development, and our line Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) to provide both skilling and re-skilling services to the industry. Over the years, ESSCI has successfully skilled over a million professionals for the ESDM industry and have a wide footprint across India.
