French company Fime has recently been accredited as the official certification authority to support the Indian digital healthcare initiative, also known as Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) which is being implemented by the National Health Authority (NHA). Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission’s (ABDM) main aim is to create an online platform for healthcare data and ecosystem, while seamlessly enabling the sharing of data amongst different healthcare providers, with the assurance of privacy. “We are working to create a national digital health ecosystem in an efficient, inclusive, affordable, timely and safe manner,” they tweeted.

“We are working to create a national digital health ecosystem in an efficient, inclusive, affordable, timely and safe manner,” comments Mr Kiran Gopal, Director, National Health Authority (NHA). “This is only possible if we can facilitate access to a wide range of data, information and infrastructure services. Leveraging open, interoperable, standards-based digital systems will ensure the security, confidentiality and privacy of health-related personal information. Our testing partners are at the heart of realizing this vision.”

The consultants and testing experts at Fime will support the healthcare providers, including but not limited to hospitals, diagnostic labs, insurance providers and clinical research and development to get their API implementations certified. While working with Fime, the stakeholders will mainly navigate through three milestones for the certification:
1. Compulsory for all participants to enable health ID capture and verification for seamless customer registration.
2. For entities becoming Health Information Providers (HIP) to share digital records via health apps.
3. For entities becoming Health Information Users (HIU) to view patients’ medical history, with their consent.

“With healthcare – as with financial services – data is the new currency,” adds Mr Angaj Bhandari, India and South Asia Managing Director at Fime. “APIs have proven their value in facilitating the seamless and secure exchange of data between parties. India is taking the lead on bringing this value to healthcare. This will improve clinical decision-making for healthcare providers, simplify telemedicine, ease access to treatment for patients and empower clinical research, among other benefits. Certification is a key enabler, protecting the integrity of the space, the APIs it relies on and ensuring the right parties are involved.”
