DGCA Releases Airspace Map For Drone Operations In India

As drone operations pick up pace in the country, the Union Civil Aviation Ministry has released India’s airspace map for drone operations.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in a tweet, “Giving wings to the imminent drone revolution at breakneck speed! @MoCA_GoIhas successfully managed to release the airspace maps for drones within 30 days of rolling out the new Drone Rules, all thanks to the team, as well as stakeholders at the State & industry levels.”

The map is available on DGCA’s digital sky platform.

The Ministry recently notified the new Drone Rules 2021 under which several approvals have been abolished and processes made easier.

“We’re going to ensure drone application in transportation, logistic, defence, mining, infrastructure sectors, and more. It will provide more jobs. Our aim is to make India a global drone hub by 2030,” Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said while announcing the notification.

Additionally, the centre also added drone under the production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes. The PLI Scheme for the Drones and Drone components industry addresses the strategic, tactical and operational uses of this revolutionary technology.

The PLI for Drones and Drone components industry, will be over a period of three years, lead to investments worth Rs 5,000 crore, increase in eligible sales of Rs 1500 crore and create additional employment of about 10,000 jobs.

The recent changes and policy additions are expected to grow the drone industry considerably. The drones and drone components manufacturing industry may see an investment of over Rs 5,000 crores over the next three years.

The annual sales turnover of the drone manufacturing industry may grow from Rs 60 crore in 2020-21 fold to over INR 900 crore in the financial year 2023-24. The drone manufacturing industry is expected to generate over 10,000 direct jobs over the next three years.
