The committee will work towards making India globally competitive in finished products and select components and parts
India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) has announced plans towards making India a Global Leader in the electronic manufacturing of new age consumer electronics. With the NPE, 2019 targeting to reach 400 billion dollars, of which we are currently at 70 billion dollars, ICEA aspires to make electronics exports number one by 2026.
Towards this end, ICEA announced the launch of the consumer electronics committee today. The committee consists of some of the prominent electronic, mobile handset and component industry luminaries.
“India with its vast geography and diverse population needs a robust and globally competitive manufacturing sector. To make India’ Atmanirbhar’ and become leaders in electronics manufacturing, we must master the manufacturing ecosystem. Consumer electronics in India have already seen a movement in the display segment where the Global market size is US dollar 110 billion and expected to grow 230 billion India
to grow to 220 billion by 2025,” noted Pankaj Mohindroo, Chairman ICEA.
He added, “We are coming together to build a sustainable ecosystem for the supply chain for long-term independence competitiveness.”
A few committee members are Dixon, Micromax, Amber, LG Sansui, OnePlus, Realme,
Xiaomi, Resolute, among others. The committee will work towards making India globally competitive in finished products and select components and parts. This committee has been formed to address issues like ease of doing business and understanding the need of the electronics sector and measures to strengthen a made-in-India brand.
“Electronics and Tech are the most valuable sectors globally, and the global market is 2.9 trillion US dollars. Consumer Electronics is one key area where ICEA is developing global leadership for manufacturing new age consumer electronics, intelligent appliances and its value chain with the vision to build a 30% globally competitive value chain in India by 2030. Today, there are negligible consumer electronics exports, which presents an opportunity for the Indian market as one of the biggest consumer electronics consumers,” added Mohindroo.
