US chip giant Intel Corp has announced that it is partnering with telco Reliance Jio to develop 5G networking technology.
The chipmaker said in a release following the ‘Mobile World Congress 2021’ event that it would co-innovate 5G radio and wireless core with Reliance Jio, and collaborate in other associate areas that include AI, cloud and edge computing, which will help it as they deploy 5G.
Previously, Intel Capital, the company’s venture capital unit, invested $250 million in Reliance Industries Ltd’s Jio Platforms.
“Jio Platforms’ focus on applying its impressive engineering capabilities to bring the power of low-cost digital services to India aligns with Intel’s purpose of delivering breakthrough technology that enriches lives,” Intel Capital President, Wendell Brooks, had said then.
Intel has also announced the launch of its new platform Intel Networks Platform with an aim to support 5G network development.
“Intel Network Platform is a technology foundation that can reduce development complexity, accelerate time to market and help to ensure customers and partners can take advantage of the features in Intel hardware, from core to access to edge.., [It] includes system-level reference architectures, drivers and software building blocks that enable rapid development and delivery of Intel powered network solutions offering an easier, faster path to develop and optimize network software, “ the company said.
